Bears finish weekend with 1-1 record

Muskoka Bears went on the road for to home games this weekend, and ended up coming home Sunday with a 1-1 record.

Saturday, they embarked on another trip to West Orillia Rotary Centre, to tackle the Terriers, who no doubt were out looking for revenge as Bears won in a shootout last game there. Orillia snuck out to a 2-0 lead before Jakob Medeiros banged home a loose puck to bring the Bears within one, on assists from Tyson Jennings, and Isaac Oakes, Bears goalie was keeping them in the game with countless saves, but penalty trouble reared its ugly head, and Terriers got an insurance marker and an empty netter to seal the win. Degan was Pita Pit Bracebridge Player of The Game as he made 47 saves in the loss.

A quick turnaround for the Bears as an early afternoon game was on the docket in Midland at 230. The Bears had a dramatic  shootout win over Midland at home in January, and this game also proved to take the same route. Midland jumped out with an early goal before Tyler Lasitz sent Nicholas Cooper in on a breakaway, who draine dhis 3rd goal of the year to tie things up. The Flyers scored late for a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd period.

That’s where things turned for the Bears. After Midland made it 3-1, the Bears responded when Tyson Jennings won the draw back to Wynston Martin who ripped his 2nd of the year past a screened Midland goalie. Isaac Oakes then evened it up a minute later, with his 6th of the year on a great feed from Jack Seney. Another few ticks of the clock, and Sam Litt banged home his 14th of the year, on a rebound, giving the Bears a 4-3 lead heading into the 3rd period.

Midland tied the game early in the 3rd, and after overtime solved nothing, it went all the way to another shootout(Bears 3rd of the year), where Sam Litt scored both Shootout goals for the Bears including the winner. It was Litt’s 2nd shootout winning goal of the year. Bears goaltender Kyle Downey was unbeatable in the overtime period, with several highlight reel saves, and stopping Midland in their last shootout attempt to tie it.

Bears next are in Huntsville Friday Feb 6th at 7pm.
